Mae Curtis

Mae Inez Broussard Curtis born in Kaplan, Louisiana on March 21, 1926 to her loving parents Marie Armeda
Babineaux and Theo Broussard. She had three sisters, Edress, Agnes, and Lorena; and three brothers, Rufus,
Clifton and Alvin, all who have gone to be with our Lord. During her childhood, Mae grew up on a cotton and
vegetable farm in Louisiana and at age 17, graduated with honors from High School, was Valedictorian, and
won several awards for mastering the French language. At age 21, she married a Naval soldier, and off she
went to begin her adult life in California with her new husband, during his final years of military service. After
moving home and living in Louisiana for a short time, they moved to Texas in a few places, finally settling in
Beaumont. During her 20’s and up to age 30 Mae was so happy to be blessed with two sons, Gerald and Carl
and two daughters, Darlene and Becky. She has seven grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Later in
life, Mae was lovingly married to James Curtis for over 30 years until he passed.
As our lives often do, Mae’s journey took her down many roads and adventures. Mae’s professional career
took her from Banking to becoming a Certified Medical Assistant and eventually on to a career as a Mary Kay
Cosmetics Beauty Consultant for over 25 years. Mae had a wonderful life raising her four children and
worked really hard as a single parent for many years, but she always felt it was her calling in life to be a
Mother. More importantly though, throughout Mae’s entire lifetime, she has always been a devout Christian
with unwavering Faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and our Heavenly Father. She was an exemplary
example to her children and always taught them to love the Lord and stay in Faith. Mae stayed devoted to her
Church wherever she lived and worked to help those less fortunate. She was a loving, giving and loyal friend
to all those who knew her and was particularly dedicated to Trinity United Methodist Church in Beaumont,
Texas and her Harvesters Sunday School Class for over 40 years. In 2008, Mae moved to California to live with
her daughter Becky and grandson Jeff who cared for her until her passing.
Mae will be remembered for her grace, beauty, undying love and faith in the Lord, and her love and devotion
to her children, and her family and friends. May her Mother and Father and all her siblings be there to greet
her, as Heaven opens its pearly gates and Mae gets her Angel wings.
